I’M so jealous it’s not funny! Brendan had the pleasure of taking a tour of the now-locked house while I was away in England. On Monday 4 April, he visited the site with our building supervisor Lee and got to see the kitchen and other cabinetry fully installed. Grrr…
But enough with the sour face. Instead, here are the pictures that brought a smile to my mug. Keep in mind that the counter tops are actually off-white – the blue is the protective film that will stay on them for now:
My custom 3.5 metre kitchen island with the walnut laminate and soft-closing drawers. The leftmost cabinet will hide the pull-out bin, and the recess on the far right is obviously for the dishwasher:
Brendan’s very chuffed with these drawers and tried his best to slam them shut without success:
The back bench with the parchment cabinets and heavy-duty under oven drawer:
Brendan also found that the doors had been painted – don’t ask us why this one’s been left here. The colour is Solver Designer White:
Other than the excitement that is our kitchen, the cabinets in the wet areas have also all been installed, and the tiler was present and ready to get started on the floors and walls as well.
This is the master bedroom ensuite. We will have square his and hers above-counter sinks and I plan to hog all three drawers as well as my cupboard space, of course! The cabinets are a black woodgrain and the counter is a black faux stone laminate but it is covered by the blue protective plastic once again. Brendan couldn’t go in to peek at it because the floor had been freshly screeded:
The guest bathroom. The counter top is an ash colour and the laminate for the cabinets is called “Espresso Ligna” to match slate grey floor tiles:
The laundry has the same coloured laminates as the guest bathroom. We extended the bench top for convenience but other than the laundry baskets, who knows what is actually going to be stored under there! There’s also a double power point under the bench so we could technically keep an extra fridge or something.
One thing Brendan did note was the plumber had installed the incorrect tap here. We are meant to have a veggie mixer in both the kitchen and the laundry so who knows what he was thinking when he ordered this one in:
The pavers are scheduled to be installed on Thursday 20 April, as mentioned the tiling was being done on the day, and the garage floor should have been poured by now. The only glitch? There is a possibility there will be a delay on the delivery of the garage doors, both the front and Brendan’s manual back one.
By Wednesday 4 May, we will have our Pre-Handover Inspection with a new building supervisor Mick, but Lee will be there to oversee the rest of the work before he moves to a new area at Celebration Homes. If we do not spot any changes that need to be made, we will have Key Handover as soon as our final payment is made.
I was hoping that we would get the keys by my birthday but we doubt that’s going to happen because we’re the biggest nit-pickers and it doesn’t help that Homeside always take their own sweet time with making payments. Who knows? Maybe for once we will be proved wrong. 🙂

Looks like it’s all coming together. Nice.

Yes it is. Not long now before we can start the arduous task of painting and wallpapering!
